Yes, Texas can and will suspend your license for a no insurance ticket that becomes a conviction on your driving record.  This suspension will remain in place until The Department of Public Safety receives proof of SR-22 insurance showing that the convicted driver now has current coverage.  The cost of purchasing this type of insurance can be significantly higher than ordinary car insurance.
