North Texas: Don’t Let a Suspended Driver’s License Derail Your Life – The Beltz Law Group Can Help
For residents across North Texas, a driver’s license isn’t just a privilege – it’s a necessity. From commuting to work in Dallas or Fort Worth, picking up kids in Plano, or handling essential errands in McKinney, having the freedom to drive is fundamental to daily life. That’s why a suspended driver’s license can feel like a sudden, severe roadblock, causing immense stress and disrupting everything.
If you’ve received a notice of suspension, or if you’re already facing the challenges of a suspended license in North Texas, you are not alone, and you have options. The experienced legal team at Beltz Law Group is here to guide you through the complexities of Texas driver’s license laws and fight for the best possible outcome.
Understanding Common Reasons for License Suspensions in Texas
Driver’s license suspensions can arise from a variety of situations, often catching individuals by surprise. At Beltz Law Group, we regularly assist clients dealing with suspensions due to:
- Habitual Violator (Too Many Traffic Ticket Convictions): Texas law designates individuals as “habitual violators” if they accumulate a certain number of traffic ticket convictions within a specific timeframe. For instance, four or more moving violation convictions in 12 months, or seven or more in 24 months, can trigger a license suspension. Many people simply pay off old tickets, unaware that each payment can count as a conviction against their driving record, leading to an eventual suspension. We can help you understand your conviction history and strategize to prevent or resolve these suspensions.
- DWI Suspensions (Driving While Intoxicated): A DWI arrest in Texas often triggers two separate processes that can lead to license suspension:
- Administrative License Revocation (ALR): This is a civil action by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) that can suspend your license independently of a criminal DWI conviction, simply for refusing or failing a breath or blood test. You only have a limited time (typically 15 days) to request an ALR hearing to contest this suspension.
- Criminal Conviction Suspension: If you are convicted of DWI in criminal court, your license will also be suspended for a period determined by the court and your driving history.

Driver License Suspension
The Beltz Law Group vigorously defends clients in both ALR hearings and criminal DWI cases, working to protect your driving privileges from every angle.
Crash-Related Suspensions (Safety Responsibility Suspensions): If you are involved in a car accident and found to be at fault without adequate liability insurance, your license can be suspended. This “Safety Responsibility” suspension typically remains in effect until damages are paid or proof of financial responsibility (like an SR-22 certificate) is provided. We can help navigate these requirements to get you back on the road.
Other Common Suspension Reasons: Beyond these, license suspensions can also stem from:
- Failure to pay surcharges (though the Driver Responsibility Program has been repealed, old surcharges might still apply).
- Driving without insurance.
- Failure to appear in court or pay fines.
- Driving with an invalid license.
- Certain drug-related offenses.
- Delinquent child support payments.
How the Beltz Law Group Can Help You Get Back on the Road

Driver License Suspension Lawyer
At Beltz Law Group, we understand that every suspended license case is unique. We offer comprehensive legal services to North Texas residents, tailored to your specific situation:
-
Contesting the Suspension: For many types of suspensions, particularly those arising from traffic tickets or DWI arrests, there’s a window of opportunity to contest the suspension. We act swiftly to file objections and represent you at crucial administrative hearings, working to prevent the suspension from taking effect.
-
Clearing Holds and Requirements: We help you identify and address the specific underlying issues causing your suspension – whether it’s unpaid fines, compliance with court orders, or providing necessary documentation to the DPS. We streamline the process, ensuring all requirements are met efficiently.
-
Obtaining an Occupational Driver’s License (ODL): If your license is already suspended, an Occupational Driver’s License (ODL), also known as an “essential need license,” may be your pathway to legal driving. An ODL allows you to drive for essential purposes like work, school, and essential household duties. Our attorneys are adept at petitioning the court for an ODL, helping you gather the required documents (like an SR-22 insurance certificate), and navigating the court process to restore your limited driving privileges.
- License Reinstatement: Once your suspension period is over and all requirements are met, we assist with the formal reinstatement process through the Texas DPS. This includes ensuring all fees are paid and necessary documentation is submitted accurately and promptly.

MY LICENSE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS i JUST NEED HELP NAVIGATING THE PROCCESS OF GETTING IT BACK
The best way to start on a driver’s license suspension is to determine why it was suspended in the first place. I would recommend visiting the DPS website and entering your personal information to determine the specific suspension category and any necessary reinstatement fees that would need to be paid. The site can be found at: https://txapps.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/dleligibility/login.do Once the reason is determined, then we can begin working on fixing it. Feel free to call us with any questions you may have.

We probably need to a detailed background check on you to determine exactly what it is going to take to get you back in good standing with Texas DPS. I suggest you give us a call so we can figure exactly what it is going to take to get your license reinstated. 214-321-4105
My daughter has a medical hold on her license and we would like to try and get them reinstated. Do you handle these types of cases?
Not usually because the issue really comes down to getting a medical professional to deem that she is physically and mentally able to drive. Once that occurs, the opinion is sent to DPS for a medical board to review and approve.
