DA Tosses Forgery Count Against Clerk
DALLAS – Dallas County prosecutors dropped a forgery charge earlier this month against a justice of the peace clerk who was accused of forging a document in an eviction case.
According to the order to dismiss filed March 18, prosecutors could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant forged the notice.
Attorney Jeffrey Beltz, told The Dallas Morning News forensics concluded the document wasn’t forged. Beltz said his client has been “through the ringer” and is now focused on healing.
“The integrity of the court is important, and people have to trust that the court system is going to work for them,” Beltz said. “The integrity of this court is — and always has been — fine, and this dismissal proves that.”
