If you or a loved one will be driving this Memorial Day weekend, you need to be aware that the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced that it will be beefing up patrols to catch drunk drivers and other traffic violators. The increased trooper presence will begin today (Friday, May 22nd) and run through Memorial Day Monday, May 25th.
It’s very important if you have plans and they involve alcohol, to have a designated driver or use a third-party transportation service.
For those driving, take extra precautions to ensure the safety of you and others, which include buckling up, refraining from texting, keeping both hands on the wheel and avoiding distractions.
The Memorial Day weekend announcement from DPS already comes in the middle of an existing “Click It or Ticket” campaign, which began on May 18th and runs until May 31st.
Last year during the Memorial Day weekend, DPS troopers arrested 413 people for DWI, issued nearly 5,500 speeding tickets and handed out over 1,000 seat belt and child restraint violations. Troopers also ticketed 684 drivers for not having insurance.
Don’t become a statistic in 2015! Use good judgement and make wise choices.
