One of the most common questions our occupational driver license lawyers are asked is, “how long will it take to get my occupational driver license?” This is an important question as it relates to a person’s job opportunities and ability to drive legally. The answer varies depending on the county you live in, but can be narrowed down into the basic categories listed below. Of course, part of the process depends on the willingness of the client to get the necessary documents to their occupational driver license lawyer to properly file the request. However, if all the documentation is provided, the estimates below should give you an accurate understanding of the time it will take to have an occupational driver license granted. If you have a question about an occupational driver license request and would like our attorneys to assist you, feel free to call 214-321-4105 after reading this article.
Dallas County Occupational Driver License Requests
ESTIMATED TIME: Less than a week
Since Dallas County is the largest county we make occupational driver license requests in, we will start here. In Dallas County, we normally file our requests in the Justice of the Peace Precinct 2-1 in Garland, Texas. We choose to file in this court because it allows us to make the occupational driver license request “by submission.” This means that we do not have to have a formal hearing in order to have the occupational driver license granted. So long as the appropriate documentation has been attached to the occupational driver license petition, the judge will normally grant the request in less than a week. In fact we have had the judge sign our occupational driver license requests the same day as the submission.
Tarrant County Occupational Driver License Requests
ESTIMATED TIME: Less than a week
In Tarrant County, we choose to file our occupational driver license requests in the Justice of the Peace Precinct 7 in Mansfield, Texas. Although it is a drive to get there, the court is very helpful in getting the occupational driver license request processed and approved by submission so long as all the documentation is properly attached to the petition. The required documentation necessary to have an occupational driver license request approved are (1) a certified copy of the driving record (2) a copy of the driver license eligibility page (3) a copy of the SR-22 Insurance Binder.
Denton County Occupational Driver License Requests
ESTIMATED TIME: Less than a week
In Denton County, we file our occupational driver license requests in the Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 in Flower Mound, Texas. This judge is very helpful and his staff is very responsive to occupational driver license requests. We have had occupational driver license requests signed the same day as the submission. If the judge is on the bench, he will sign the documents and have them returned to the clerks almost immediately after signing.
Rockwall County Occupational Driver License Requests
ESTIMATED TIME: One to two weeks (possibly longer)
There are four precincts in Rockwall County where you can file an occupational driver license request. Rockwall County Precinct 2 was at the time of the last filing held by Judge Kathy Penn. It was not an easy process as she required a formal hearing which delayed the occupational driver license requests based on her hearing schedule. A new judge has been assigned to precinct 2 after Judge Penn chose to retire. However, we do not know at this time if the process will be better or worse for occupational driver license requests. Our occupational driver license lawyers are experimenting with Precinct 4, Judge Whitten to see if she would be willing to accept filings by submission. It is our hope that the process becomes more streamlined as the judges in Rockwall County become more comfortable with the filings and processing the requests.
Kaufman County Occupational Driver License Requests
ESTIMATED TIME: One to two weeks (possibly longer)
The old saying that, “the further east you go in Texas the slower things roll” is on point for occupational driver license requests. It is hard to get clerks in Kaufman County to move fast on anything. They have their own way of doing things in this part of Texas. We have found that the the further west you go in the county, the faster things do get done. For that reason, we suggest filing occupational driver license requests in JP 2 Kaufman County in Forney, Texas. We have filed a few requests in this court and it does seem to be the best. Normally, this court does not require a hearing and will accept documents by submission.
