1) The friend/relative pays the bond fee. When the Defendant is released and comes to do the “paperwork” the bond company demands a $20 “application fee”.

3) Buried in the bond agreement may be a 10% additional fee if the bond is required for over 6 months….some bond companies do so at the one year mark.
4) Taking a bond fee and then demanding cash collateral for the full amount of the bond….thats right…the full amount in cash which is returned after the case is disposed minus a $50 administrative fee.
It’s probably not a bad idea to check on which bond companies are charging these extra costs before you refer someone. It’s also important to note that not all bail bonds companies are involved in these unscrupulous practices but it’s very important to do your research.
