If you or a loved one will be driving on the Texas roadways this Memorial Day weekend, you need to be aware that DPS has just announced an increase in officer patrols that will be on the lookout for intoxicated drivers, as well as other safety and traffic violations. The beefed-up police presence will begin on Friday, May 23rd and run through Memorial Day Monday, May 26th.
It’s very important if you have plans this coming weekend and they involve alcohol, have a designated driver on-hand or use a transportation service. For those driving, take extra precautions to ensure the safety of you and others, which include buckling up, refraining from texting, keeping both hands on the wheel and avoiding distractions while driving.
The Memorial Day weekend announcement from DPS already comes in the middle of its existing “Click It or Ticket” campaign, which runs until June 1st.
The bottom line is to be aware of your surroundings and exercise good judgment when driving. Last year during Memorial Day weekend, Texas troopers arrested 460 people for DWI, issued 5,036 speeding tickets, wrote more than 800 seat belt and child safety restraint tickets and cited 698 people for driving without insurance.
