It can be tempting. The apple of your eye is physically capable of driving a car but just not old enough to get that license. He or she is begging you to let them take your new minivan for a spin. Do you give in this one time, after all they got straight A’s? The easy answer is NO! NO!NO!
The Texas Transportation Code provides:
Sec. 521.458. PERMITTING UNAUTHORIZED PERSON TO DRIVE. (a) A person may not knowingly permit or cause the person’s child or ward who is under 18 years of age to operate a motor vehicle on a highway in violation of this chapter.
(b) A person may not authorize or knowingly permit a motor vehicle owned by or under the control of the person to be operated on a highway by any person in violation of this chapter.
A crime under this statute is a Class C Misdemeanor punishable with a fine up to $200.00 (plus applicable court costs).

This has happened to me but they’re trying to charge me with a moving violation. This doesn’t work for me because as you know CDL is held to a higher standard and I don’t need a moving violation on my record. What can I do? I’m okay with the fine it was my fault but I don’t need the moving violation.
