Discussing DWLI Policy In Mesquite Municipal Court
214-321-4105
Have you been issued a ticket for driving while license invalid. Did you know that Mesquite Municipal Court has a new policy regarding DWLI tickets that are given. Once you have received a traffic ticket from Mesquite Municipal Court, you will have 12 days to appear in court and enter a plea. This means, you will have 12 days to show proof of that your license is in good standings with DPS and is valid. If you do not show proof of a valid driver’s license, the court will not offer deferred adjudication to keep the ticket off your record.
If you do not receive a dismissal or deferred adjudication and this no insurance ticket goes on your record; you will not only have to pay the fine to Mesquite Municipal Court, but also pay a surcharge to Texas DPS for 3 years. A Surcharge from DPS can begin at $260.00 a year for 3 years.
If your driver’s license is still not valid and need a little more time to get your license valid, contact The Beltz Law Firm. Our office will first make the initial appearance for you or lift any warrants, if necessary. While we are waiting on a court date, you will need to get your license in good standings with DPS and provide a valid driver’s license to our office. Once we have received a court date and have a copy of your valid driver’s license, the attorney will go in and speak with the prosecutor. If our attorney cannot work out a dismissal, he will then show proof of your valide driver’s license to the court to have deferred adjudication granted.
If we have not received a copy of your valid driver’s license by the court date, the attorney can reset your case to give you more time to get proof of your driver’s license to our office. Once we have received another court hearing, the attorney will go in and show proof to the prosecutor for deferred adjudication. By the second setting, if we have not received a valid driver’s license, the attorney will have no choice but to accept a straight plea with only 10 days to pay. A straight plea will be a conviction on your record and surcharges will be issued to you from DPS.
